Background
There have been a lot of events over the last 18 months that have exposed significant weaknesses in our society. Both natural and manmade events have disrupted lives in major ways. So far, the disruptions have been limited to weeks or months. But those events also give an indicator of things that could happen where significant disruptions could spread from days or weeks to months or years. I spent a good portion of my professional career working in the electric energy business. I am familiar with its operation and some of its inherent weaknesses. These weaknesses can be exploited in ways that would change life for a very long time.

I try to be a good follower of Jesus Christ and to follow His instruction as I understand it. I do not claim to be good at it, just to make an honest effort. Part of that effort is trying to understand the events around me in the context of prophecy.

In the last 18 months, there have been many events that look a lot like some of the prophecies preparatory to the return of Jesus Christ. This has led me to consider some of the prophecies which remain unfulfilled (as I understand them) and to consider the possible conditions pertinent to those remaining prophecies.
Isaiah siad, "
"Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers. Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots: Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not."

The phrases "replenished from the east", "full of silver and gold", "full of horses", [no] "end of their chariots" all sound a lot like life in the United States today. Most of our goods come from the East (China). Money is passed out like candy and the rich get richer every day, often by mandate of government. There is no end to the number of cars and trucks.
Isaiah's condemnation is jarring on it own. But there is more. One prophecy by Jesus Christ is particularly interesting; He says that if the Gentiles do not repent (this nation) that the Father will cut off the horses, destroy the chariots, cut off the cities, throw down the strongholds, and cut off the graven images and standing images.
The Self-Reliant Community will attempt to seriously consider the impact of this prophecy with its potential consequences.
Personally, I have come to believe that He is telling us that our society (in the United States) will experience some very major adjustments that will affect all people across the land. I believe that we may see a time when the infrastructure which we depend upon will cease to operate and that the disruptions we have witnessed so far are just preliminary warnings of things to come. I do not believe that religious persons will necessarily be shielded from the consequences of these events.

You don’t have to believe what I believe to participate with this group. But you may believe that:

-
Things are not well in our society and that the things we depend upon could easily be disrupted for an extended period of time.
-
Some of your neighbors and friends have similar but possibly unspoken concerns.
-
You could better prepare for such events by working on your own self-reliance and by combining your resources with the resources of others with similar concerns.
If you believe these three things and would like to try to prepare against the mentioned possibilities, then this group may be of interest to you.
